Like, we didn't support the tariffs in the first place, right? So why are we making fun of him for chickening out, if that's actually what we wanted? I'm worried he'll see all this constant taunting about chickening out, having no follow through, and it'll make him want to double- or triple-down, just go hard on something that's even worse, and do it 100% so there's no backing out, just to prove everyone wrong. Am I off base to worry about that? I also just don't "get" the idea of mocking him for decisions we agree with. Like, it's an extreme example, but imagine he gave Iran an ultimatum: had over the Ayatollah by the end of the week, or we nuke Tehran. We'd be horrified, and desperately hope it doesn't happen. Then, the day comes and goes without Iran following through, nor does Trump drop any nukes. Surely we wouldn't dream of mocking him for chickening out then? Mock him for making careless threats maybe, but not that, we'd just be so glad it didn't happen. This seems kind of like that, just on a much smaller scale. Obviously, even the absolute worst-case scenario for tariffs would never approach the horror of dropping an atom bomb, but it's still something we don't want to happen, and if it doesn't we're glad. We can still be pissed he's playing such a careless game with the economy, of course, and be angry that the lack of follow through cheapens the meaning of the POTUS' word, but that's different than mocking him for not doing it. Again, am I just worried over nothing here? --- ## Comments > **Magniras** • [548 points](https://reddit.com/r/50501/comments/1l142k8/comment/mvic5x2/) • 2025-06-02 > > Because mockery undermines fascists. Let's face it, provoking him to follow his most base instincts is the path to his eventual downfall. It's not going to be pretty, but the seeds of trump's destruction are in his incredibly fragile sense of self-worth. Let's help him accelerate his own downfall. You're overthinking it. You're projecting your intelligence onto a group of people who've demonstrated time and again that they lack critical thinking ability.  The biggest divide amongst the left seems to be whether we should push back or take the high road and stick with potential legal liability (i.e., all of the pending suits against Trump/ the administration).  It gets under their skin.  You miss 100% of the time if you dont try. (Modified phrase due to "shots") I'm here for it.
