Matthew Huttle, a 42-year-old Indiana resident recently pardoned by President Trump for his involvement in the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot, was fatally shot by a Jasper County sheriff's deputy during a traffic stop on Indiana State Road 14. An altercation occurred when the deputy attempted to arrest Huttle, who allegedly had a firearm in his vehicle. Huttle had previously been sentenced to six months in prison in 2023 for entering a restricted building during the Capitol breach and was released in July 2024. He was among approximately 1,500 individuals who received clemency from President Trump. The Indiana State Police are investigating the incident, and the involved deputy has been placed on paid administrative leave. Sheriff Patrick Williamson extended condolences to Huttle's family.
